Horst P. Horst, also known as just Horst, was born on August 14, 1906, he was a German American photographer best known for his photographs of women and fashion taken while working for Vogue magazine. His studio images, strongly influenced by both classicism and Surrealism, are icons of the staged fashion photograph. Born into a prosperous commercial family, he first studied architecture at the Hamburg Design School, then assisted Le Corbusier in Paris in 1930. He is Known for: Extravagant fashion plates, exquisite still-lifes, nudes, and interiors, and renowned portraits of people such as Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, and Coco Chanel. Horst passed away on November 18, 1999
