Visiting any country should have learning the native language of whatever country that is as a requirement. You can certainly just hire an interpreter to do all the hard work for you (which may not really be hard work because that’s a language he or she already is a master of), but it would be much more enjoyable conversing with locals if you know are familiar with their colloquial terms, wouldn’t it? Learning to speak italian, for instance, would allow you to order pasta carbonara at a restaurant much easier. Surely the chef will be serving you your order with much gusto, glad that you at least have taken the time learning to speak Italian before visiting the country. You’ll enjoy the entire journey more, and be a little proud of that learning achievement too.
