Many people worry about getting a goldfish because they think that goldfish don’t live very long. In fact, if properly cared for, many types of goldfish can live 5 years, 10 years, or more. They’re a long-term commitment. In order for your goldfish to reach old age, it is important to stay up to speed on goldfish information to make sure you provide the healthiest environment for your fish. A varied diet will keep your fish healthy, so one or two times a week give your fish bloodworms, crushed frozen peas, or brine shrimp instead of flakes. Keep your tank’s environment healthy by testing regularly for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates; performing regular partial water changes weekly; and cleaning the gravel regularly. Depending on the number of fish you have, as your fish get older and continue to grow, you may need to get a larger tank. Do all of these things and your fish may live a long time!
