When traveling, I prefer to have my own mode of transportation and always end up renting a vehicle for myself.  This allows me the freedom to come and go as I please, but also allows me to see more in shorter amounts of time.  Just last week, I was able to find very inexpensive cape town car rentals for the entire weekend.  Since it was a last minute deal, I was not able to find anyone to join me, but still able to visit a few new places.  It was well worth it and would do it again in a heartbeat.
